History

1976 was a big year for Gary C. Wyatt. He founded a general contractor business, Gary C. Wyatt, Inc., and celebrated the birth of his son, John Gary Wyatt. Gary operated a highly successful construction company for decades with projects across the southeast.

Construction was a way of life for John Wyatt from an early age. He learned the construction vocabulary around the dinner table and spent countless hours on job sites with his father. Upon his graduation from Samford, he fulfilled his dream of joining his father in the family business. In addition to business development, John piloted the company plane throughout the southeast where he continued learning all aspects of the family business as he flew his father and other key personnel from job to job.

In 2012, Gary decided to close Gary C. Wyatt, Inc., and John followed in his father’s footsteps by opening Wyatt General Contractor. With his father still by his side, John began growing his company steadily. Sadly, in August 2015, John died in an accident leaving behind his wife, Mary Burrett Wyatt, and their two daughters.

Mary was determined to continue John’s legacy by continuing to build the family business. She took on her husband’s role as president/CEO and is now at the helm of Wyatt General Contractor surrounded by the same dedicated team that worked with John for years.

The stability and success that Wyatt General Contractor has experienced over the last 2 years is a testimony to John’s legacy and Mary’s leadership. As a woman owned general contractor, she looks to grow the company’s footprint while broadening community involvement.
